We are pleased to invite you to the international conference “Cross-Border Cooperation, Security and Development Perspectives in the Wider Black Sea Region”, that will take place in the city of Veliko Turnovo, Bulgaria on the 16th and 17th of November, 2017.

The conference is held within the scientific research project „Cross-Border Cooperation and Development Policies in Bulgaria and on the Balkans”, run by the Faculty of Philosophy at St. Cyril and St. Methodius University of Veliko Turnovo under the Scientific Research Project “Cross-Border Cooperation and Development Policies in Bulgaria and on the Balkans. It is the 10th event, devoted to regional development, security and cross-border cooperation, held within a series of projects of the Faculty’s Centre for Cross Border Studies. Academic institutions from Romania and Serbia are official partners for the organization of the conference – University of Bucharest, Centre for Strategic Studies of the National Security CESNA-B, Belgrade, Serbia, Faculty of Philosophy and University of Craiova, Faculty of Social Sciences and the researcher’s.

The conference establishes venue for interdisciplinary approaches to the problems of regional and national development of the Balkan area. It seeks to promote studies that provide diverse but complementary perspectives to the local complexities and bring forward wide-scope strategies driven by cooperation and partnership among the Balkan countries and the countries from the Wider Black Sea Region.

In the last decades the Wider Black Sea and Caspian Sea regions have become a ground field of global confrontation between USA, Russia and the EU, and the regional powers in the fields of energy security, building of new trade roads, migration and defrosting of some old conflicts – these regions will have a great importance in the 21th century. Experts of all fields of social sciences, philosophy and security studies are invited to participate in the conference and to express their opinions on the future of the Black Sea region; the Balkan and the Wider Black Sea countries’ policies  in the context of the present-day security challenges; the global crisis; European integration and EU policies; the regional conflicts and the search for new development policies. Selected papers will be published after a double blind review process and the volume will be indexed in some representative data bases.

The Conference will be structured in the following thematic panels:

  • Security in the Wider Black Sea Region;
  • Perspectives for Cross-Border Cooperation and Development of the Wider Black Sea Region;
  • Philosophy, Culture and Identities in the Wider Black Sea Region: the Collapse of Multiculturalism.

The Conference will be held in Campus 5 of Veliko Turnovo University on Teodosi Turnovski str. №2. Participants are to cover their expenses for travel and accommodation.

Some invited keynote speakers will participate in the Conference without Conference fee.
